I sat on the bed, desultorily dusting the few objects I could cope with while my energetic friend breezed her way around the room, almost knocking things over in her enthusiasm to get the job done.
Our soul conversation more than made up for any lack of application on my part.
She grinned as I pointed out the family photos, recalling births, marriages and proud family moments in my life.
And we pondered on the passing of time turning me from young woman to grandma and her to wife.
Finally, she reached a set of drawers where much paraphernalia is stored.
Pulling at them one by one, I revealed their contents and why they'd sat neglected for many years.
Here lay gifts from family and friends to aid my creativity. Long before I painted pictures with words I put pencil, brush and paint to paper for another purpose.
I drew, sketched, dabbled with pastels, felt-tip pens, ink and coloured pencils, painted with water-colours.
Here lay treasure, if only I could remember how to mine for it again.
Somewhere along the way I lost my true self, and the hope of my beloved family and friends was that these things might somehow 'restore me' again.
The very real fear of failure kept me captive to all but creativity.
Captive to shame. Captive to deep emotional pain. Captive to the past. Captive to fear itself.
How could I risk further proof of my incapability? This would only be evidence of shame and failure once again.
So these gifts were received with a shy, watery smile, tried out briefly then placed together in this cabinet, pushed away out of sight and out of mind.
I sighed at the waste but believed it to be confirmation of my ineptitude.
Now, what to do? As I marvelled over this unexpected treasure trove I felt a pang in my heart. And a 'What if?'
What if I actually dared myself to try again, to pick up these parts of me, dust them down and use them for the purpose they were created for?
Prior to opening and revealing the contents I would have felt it was a 'no go' area, a Pandora's Box to steer well clear of.
Who knows what it would unleash? Most likely guilt and sadness.
But what if also freed up a fresh wave of hope and optimism? A desire to start again?
Maybe you have a similar drawer or space like this in your life to reclaim?
Maybe the enemy of our souls has persuaded you it's too late, it's time to move on?
Maybe there's an emptiness inside where creativity seems to have died?
I thought my creativity was lost until I began expressing it writing poetry and prose on a blog, and taking snapshot images to make memory markers of my days. It feeds my soul to read, to write, to capture, to create.
So, have I picked up where I left off, brandished brushes and pottered around with paint?
Erm... not quite. This uncovering occurred a few weeks ago and I've been in the throes of flu for almost a month. But I am determined to make a start when energy and inspiration are there.
There have been too many years sitting by while creativity slowly died, too much time already wasted to want to waste another second.
All it takes is the ability to be willing to start over again. I'm trusting God to help me with the rest.
We can allow God to paint beauty with the ashes of our lives as we busy ourselves being creative.
The same is true for you too. As we venture forth in faith God leads and guides us into the places where we can be most effective for him and become all He intends us to be.
Sometimes He will sit and smile as we make progress; sometimes He will point out the way ahead, maybe instruct us how to add a touch here or there, and sometimes He might just hand us the brush to paint new things on the canvas of our lives.
I've got my metaphorical brush in my shaky hands. In time (not too long, I hope) I will wield it again and lose myself in the art of making art with my life.
Are you ready to wield yours too? Willing to become open as a child again?
Revisit the art room as eagerly as we did before we got too grown up and self-conscious. Become reacquainted with our inner selves and the expression of them.
Let's learn to press pause on perfectionism. See beauty in all we're still becoming.
The reassuring thing is, God still approves of us no matter what mess we make. He gives grace upon grace to start over again.
Our task is to see ourselves as already pre-approved, rest in believing we're beloved Just As We Are. Because that's a beautiful thing in His sight.
Linking here with Bonnie, Holley, Jennifer and friends as we share what feeds our soul, provides coffee for our heart, and encourages us as we live out our faith in the telling of His story.

Resting in the Father's love
When life's challenges knock us sideways, instead of rocking ourselves back and forth with worry, we need a solid Rock to lean on.
A breathing space.
A place of shelter.
A refuge from the storms.
A haven of rest.
A place of dependency from where we are enabled to grow strong, become free.
Someone who we can rely on above all others.
We need a Saviour. We need Jesus. We need His joy. We need His peace.
We need grace to see, believe and receive how much God loves us beyond words, beyond our wildest imaginations, beyond life itself.
It can be so hard to believe we are the beloved of God when calamities come strong against us, can't it?
It can be hard to stay stable and remain calm in the mud and mire of our mess and miseries.
To fight the urge to give in to discouragement, to give up in despair.
To avoid cynicism creeping in.
To stay more focused on God's face and His amazing grace to help us live as overcomers, instead of pointing to our problems.
Much depends on what or who are we listening to.
Voices crowd our mind from our inner fears, from the past, the world, the enemy, from those who have hurt us.
Yet it is the gentle whispered words of Holy Spirit which our souls most need to listen to.
And His is the one voice we tend to lose most easily in the daily grind, in the swirl and whirl of noisy sound all around.
How might it look if we had a revelation of how much God loves us?
How might we live in the light of that knowledge?
I'm not sure yet. But I hope to find out in the months ahead.
Currently, my body needs more physical rest than usual as I recover from having flu, and my mind craves it too.
I'm aiming to devour God's word, meditate on its soul-transforming truth, seek more spiritual whitespace, embrace all that assists the process, and gradually learn to draw aside from all that hinders me from being fully at rest in Him.
As I try to rest grateful on His grace, rest in knowing who I am in Christ, rest in being a daughter of the King of kings and a woman of God, maybe I will grow to live more at ease with accepting how deeply loved I am by Him.
It would be so freeing to do that, wouldn't it? Maybe you have struggles in this area too. Let's share and learn together, shall we?
The song below is a great reminder of how our heavenly Father rejoices over each and every one of us and stills our anxious hearts with His love.
"The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing" ~ Zephaniah 3:17

Keep on walking
Our walk of faith so often feels like a treacherous journey through mud and mire, thorns and thistles, sinking sand and stony ground.
Obstacles abound. We wonder where a safe passage can be found.
Weeds wind their pernicious way around our hearts.
Pebbles press into our shoes and we become impatient pilgrims.
Problems multiply and challenges come. Each one seemingly bigger than before.
Are we ready for them?
Are we armed and dangerous?
Not always.
Although we have the soft breath of Holy Spirit whispering wisdom and the wild wind of His power sweeping through us, we tend to forget He is ever-present.
And we need to seek God's will as we walk with awareness through our days.
Read and absorb His word. Believe and declare its truth and rest in His promises.
Be on our guard against the snares of the enemy. Have our shield of faith in place and wield the sword of the Spirit.
Be vigilant. Be prepared. Be ready to turn to God in an instant in dependence and prayer.
I've been caught out lately as I allowed negativity and discouragement to eat away inside my soul.
Watched weariness bringing out the worst in me.
Allowed irritability to replace tranquillity.
Gave a foothold to fatigue instead of resting in God's peace.
Made comparisons that stole my joy, rather than being satisfied with what I had and who I am in Christ.
Became critical and cautious instead of being open and giving.
My weaknesses are many and the openings all too easy to breach unless I keep my guard up.
But there is a way to stay at rest, to enjoy where we are on the way to where we're going.
And it starts with seeing things God's way, seeing ourselves as we truly are and seeing His solution to it all.
It's an uncomfortable thing to gain self-awareness through our faults and failings, but it will also be the beginning of the overcoming of them.
Staying trapped, staying the same, staying bound is not an option for a blood-bought child of God.
We are supposed to grow into the best of ourselves as we continue to lay down and yield the worst of ourselves.
Your walk may be taking you through smooth, sunny pastures or into the eye of a storm.
No matter where you're situated right now....God is there. He walks with you and holds you close.
"When we sin and mess up our lives, we find that God doesn't go off and leave us - he enters into our trouble and saves us" ~ Eugene H. Peterson in 'A Long Obedience in the Same Direction'You never walk alone.
You can never fall into a pit so deep that His arm cannot reach down to pull you out of it.
There is always hope for healing, for change, for transformation and restoration.
Cling to the cross. Hold hard to God's hand, follow after His heart, and lean into His embrace.
He already knows your every weakness and pain. Every aspect of sin and shame is laid bare before Him.
Let Him minister to you and bring you through; allow grace to permeate and saturate your days.
In surrender you will find sanctuary. And the deep soul rest, peace and ease you need to keep on walking on.

It starts with the heart
How are things with you? I hope your week has gone well.
I've been dabbling in the mire and a behaving like a bit of an imp lately.
Impatient. Impetuous. Impolite. You get the picture.
All mixed in with a heavy dose of frustration and irritability.
And worst of all? I've acted and reacted like this with my nearest and dearest.
My beloved has borne the brunt of my bad behaviour.
He quells me with his calm, stills me with his silence, and floors me with his ready forgiveness, faithfulness and love.
His generosity and grace make me want to amend my ways ~ quick-smart.
Anyone who thinks becoming sixty confers serene sainthood on one is sadly mistaken.
Having silver hair is no indicator of sagacity, nor senility for that matter.
Sadly, sin and shameful ways are the default mode of the human race.
We all need saving from ourselves.
Sure, we can all act good sometimes, with an alarming tendency to magnify our virtues and minimise our flaws.
And we do all that as we also turn our attention upon the perceived faults and failings of others with pin-point accuracy and accusation.
What happened to me this week? I left a door open for the enemy.
I allowed myself to become over-stretched, over-tired and overwhelmed. A sure-fire way to get stressed and upset.
That's all the invitation he needs.
Your triggers may be very different but they need to be paid attention to.
All areas of personal weakness require guarding by vigilance and prayer.
Is there a remedy? Oh, yes!
God has already provided all the mercy, forgiveness, restoration and renewal we need to change our behaviour.
It starts with the heart. The heart of God the Father in sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die and suffer on the cross in our place.
It starts with seeing how vulnerable and needy we really are.
It continues with daily dependence on His grace, with surrender, and a willingness to live the way He desires us to.
We lean and learn; we sow and grow; we believe and receive, we give and live as a new creation in Christ.
So how are my 'imps' doing?
They're looking a little subdued, a little less sure of themselves and a little less powerful than they were.
Further confession... when I began this '31 days of writing brave and free' exercise I envisaged gentle, Holy Spirit-prompted sharing of insights, prayers and poignant spiritual moments.
The reality? What I've been given so far is imperfect poetry and prose, a heavy dose of humility, a deeper heart-to-heart opening up and a greater revelation of my need of God. Who knew?
Heavenly Father,
May my confession strike a chord with someone. Use these words to help them see their need of you, to realise that there is no perfect Christian or easy walk of faith. Reassure them that they are far from alone with their struggles. Speak to their heart and mind to bring about the transformation they require and long for. Please open their eyes to your goodness and grace, mercy and forgiveness, and grant them the hope of seeing change as they surrender to your will and ways.
Amen

Hope springs eternal
It is said that where there is life there is hope. Its rays of light and grace rise through the cracks and crevices of our days.
The resilience of the human spirit is a God-given gift we truly need.
We can endure far more than we think when God gives us hope and strength to do so.
Reason will only get us so far.
Faith and trust will enable us to go way beyond our limitations.
As we continue to place our hope in the God of all hope He will guide our paths, provide a way where there seems to be no way, and reveal His plans to us.
"Hope springs eternal in the human breast; man never is, but always to be blessed:the soul, uneasy and confined from home, rests and expatiates in a life to come" ~ Alexander Pope 'An Essay on Man'
As I dust down an old journal (which I began using in 2008 but ceased writing in after a series of family calamities concluding in the unexpected death of my brother), it is with the hope of reclaiming it anew, writing observations of life and faith and being able to move beyond the reminder of those painful times.
I also do so with the purpose of allowing God to speak to me afresh as I record daily (if possible) thoughts, reflections, snippets of poetry or prayers.
I'm joining Dawn and other journaling friends in June as we seek spiritual white space and aim to draw near to God as He encourages us to #listentoyourlife more avidly in the month ahead.
You are very welcome and warmly invited to join us. For more info on journaling in June, click here to visit Dawn's site and find out what it's all about. There is space for you and grace to join in as you feel able to.
Let hope inform your days as you surrender them to His ways this week.

That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without words ~
And never stops at all" ~ Emily Dickinson

Surprised by joy
Can we slip easy into the shoes of another?
See life from their perspective and leave our own preconceptions behind.
Maybe discover, like a child stepping into an adult's shoes, that it looks exciting but feels quite precarious.
Stepping into another person's life ~ using our God-given imaginations and empathy ~ will soon reveal things very similar to our own, in spite of vastly differing circumstances.
Suffering and adversity are universal, though they are not easily measurable.
One person's tragedy is another's light and momentary trouble. We all have our individual sinking points and ways of reacting to them.
It is often those who say little (or nothing), yet offer to sit in the ashes with us, who make us feel less alone. Hugs can speak volumes, as can shared tears.
I used to think greater resilience grew from multiplicity of trials. Maybe it does for some.
Much depends on the severity and duration of challenging circumstances.
My experience is more like the camel's back breaking under the strain.
And yet, the 'last straw' a human frame can handle is just the starting point for God to enter in.
When I have surrendered situations beyond my control (isn't everything, at heart?) to God, then He supplies all I require to not only keep my head above water but to swim confidently in His river of grace.
"This circumstantial wilderness is a terrible, frightening, and dangerous place; but I also believe it's a place of beauty" ~ Eugene H. Peterson 'Leap Over A Wall'
C.S Lewis wrote about being 'Surprised by Joy' when he recounted his coming to faith experiences.
I'm slowly discovering it is possible to be surprised by joy in the darkest of places.
Beauty comes forth from ashes.
Faith strengthens when we feel the fear and 'do it afraid'.
Hope springs out of helplessness.
"Believe that the deepest afflictions are neighbours to the highest joy" ~ Charles Spurgeon
It sounds like an enormous effort of will to find cheer in the midst of difficulties and problems. I'm gradually seeing that our part is to simply rest and trust in God's promises:
"Those who sow in tears, will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him." ~ Psalm 126:5 - 6
Those seeds we sow? ~ faith, love, kindness, encouragement etc ~ may seem tiny and insubstantial, but God will produce an abundant harvest in our lives at just the right time.
There is joy in knowing this too shall pass; we are helped, comforted and strengthened by the One who holds us fast, just as He also holds all things together and works in them for our good.
We can rest in knowing God has got us covered.
We can give thanks, not for the circumstances, but in them, trusting God to keep us safe and see us through.
" I asked God for strength, that I might achieve, I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey. I asked for health, that I might do greater things, I was given infirmity, that I might do better things. I asked for riches, that I might be happy, I was given poverty, that I might be wise. I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men, I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life, I was given life, that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I had hoped for. Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am among all men, most richly blessed." ~ An unknown soldier in the American Civil War"Awareness of My Face shining upon you can instill Joy into the most difficult day" ~ Sarah Young 'Jesus Today'
Dear Father,
Your hand is not too short to reach down and pull us out of any pit we may have fallen into, even those of our own making. We need to be aware of Your presence with us, hear the soft whisper of Your voice, sense how near and dear we are to You as Your beloved children.
Grant us encouragement from Your word, the ability to receive all we need to revive flagging spirits, lift weary heads, ignite hope, restore joy, bring rest and peace.
Help us to realise these seasons may seem never ending but they will come to their own conclusion in Your perfect timing. And as we co-operate with You in coming through them we will be able to see the lessons learnt along the way.
Enable and equip us to sit alongside our brother and sisters in faith who are suffering and offer them the same comfort, help and strength you have given to us.
Amen.

Why you don't have to hide anymore
Welcome friend.
I'm so pleased you are here.
In this space I want to share coffee for your heart.
Drink in whatever troubles you.
Offer a listening ear and a hand to hold.
Share the things that bless and encourage me.
Be someone you can feel at home with.
So kick off your shoes, pick up your coffee (or tea if you prefer), make yourself comfy and get ready.
We'll share coffee, comfort and encouragement.
Today, I have a letter to write you...
Dear You,
I see the pain you try to hide behind words and smiles, because deep in the windows of your soul you carry a weight of woundedness.
Despite evidence to the contrary, you don't feel truly loved or validated.
Nothing really fills the gaping space where trust, safety and security should be.
It feels easier to erect walls around yourself than allow anyone close admittance to your inner core. Fortifications. Defences. Build them high enough and no mere mortal can scale them.
Until someone reaches out and breaches your defences, and you notice how hedged in you really are.
My friend, this was my life for many years.
I lived scared. Hid the pain. Refused to recognise how I'd closed off my heart.
On the surface we can seem fine, in control, content even. On the inside? When we're on our own? We curl away as foetal-curved commas withdrawing from ourselves and the world around.
There is help. There is hope. We don't have to hide anymore.
God is here. He is ready, willing and able to enter into our pain, help us face the walls; and as we co-labour with Him in their removal..brick by tiny brick...they come down and we are set free.
His unconditional Love ~ is our security.
His sacrifice on the cross ~ the doorway to forgiveness and mercy.
His Spirit within ~ our shelter and safe place.
His grace ~ our enabling and equipping.
His Life ~ becomes as one~ with our life ~ as we open up to Him ~ like a flower to the sun.
These are the encouraging words and thoughts I want you to hear as we start a new year: {and believe me, I need to hear them too}
Absorb the truth of who you are ~ beautiful and beloved.
Know deep in your heart ~ you are safe always.
Hold on ~ to the reassurance that you can be set free.
Feel deeply within ~ you are special, precious to God and loved beyond measure.
Believe ~ you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
Fight on ~ whenever the going gets tough. Because God fights for you and will never give up on you.
Listen to His voice. Hear the heartbeat of God soothing your own. Come close to the throne of grace and find mercy in your hour of need.
Healing and wholeness are there for the taking.
Are you ready? I hope so. It may take time. I'm still very much a 'work in progress' in this area as in many, but we all have to start somewhere.
This could be the year you open up your heart to all that God has in store for you.
God's arms of love are reaching out to you, just as we reach out to our own loved ones to hold them safe and close.

Let truth be told
Sometimes we have to face up to home-truths about ourselves that make us squirm and try to wriggle away with shame and embarrassment.
I'm having one of those times.
As I've gone through Advent my deepest desire has been to connect with God at heart level, sense the pulse of His love beating through me, waken to His presence and awaken that desire in others.
The reality? A bit grim actually.
Well.. to be fair, there have been moments when He spoke clearly and insightfully, gave me poetic words to share that have been a blessing to others, and...there have also been long stretches of days without end when I trip over myself continually, hot with shame and disappointment, barely able to lift my head at all.
And as for hearing His voice, resting and listening, feeling peaceful, joyful ~ no, none of those to any great measure at all, sad to say.
Or maybe I have but I failed to see or appreciate it. Because, don't we just pull away whenever we fail our image of ourselves, never mind how we think God perceives us?
I've blushed hot and shivered cold with the way I've reacted to life recently.
Self control? Maturity? Not in this fallen woman's heart. Against all intention and desire I cannot seem to stop speaking negatively about myself most of all ~ denying the truth of His word and what it says about who I am in Christ.
I rail out at my beloved, with my perfectionist tendencies insisting on the rightness of my stance or version of events blinding me to the pain he feels at being discounted, and the hurt on his dear face.
Yes, sorry to say, blaming things (and other people) has come all too easy.
I'm hormonal. I'm in need of a break. I'm overtired/unwell/stressed/pressured etc. etc..
All these reasons (excuses) from my inner voice fall into a meaningless void whenever I've allowed God to get a word in edgeways.
Missing those times of still attentivenes before Him (due to my inner restlessness) hasn't helped much.
Now I am seeing that lies (even supposedly kind white ones), wrong attitudes and behaviour don't stand a chance in the Light of Truth ~ pure, holy, fiery, searing, soul-cleansing truth.
And as I've sought answers in the secret place, I sense words of Truth hitting home with hammer and nail finality yet with an overriding gentleness and grace.
He longs for us to see the truth of His life and follow after Him.
Lately, I've been too wrapped up in bad behaviour ~ swiftly followed by self-condemnation ~ to even want to speak these things out loud.
Yet here I am making a public declaration of it all and risking the ruining of whatever good reputation I may have gained in the eyes of others.
Truth hurts ~ but knowing it sets us free. We remain enslaved without it.
Beyond anything else, I long and I need to be free.
Captive to the manipulations and abuse from others in my childhood, slave to my own emotions, perceived as damaged goods, left with broken dreams and a broken heart ~ all these things need healing and restoring.
Without God's truth I am adrift on a sea of emotions, rudderless in every storm, powerless in the midst of problems, fearful instead of faithful, weak and weary instead of strong and capable.
For our capabilities rest in His ability alone. His keeping, holding, sustaining mercy, love and grace.
Real freedom means release from all that chains our souls to their earthly nature. It involves exchanging our self-driven lives for ones surrendered to God.
Where does this leave us?
When life throws us to our knees ~ it's the best place to look up and find Him there.
When we sin we need a Saviour ~ more than ever.
When we become discouraged and disappointed ~ we can become reappointed in Him.
When we get tired of the everyday toil ~ we have hope for this life and life eternal.
When we want Christmas to be perfect ~ we can only find that in Christ as He is at the centre of it all.
So I turn once again to the One who brings beauty from ashes, collects my tears in a bottle, sees and understands all, who offers mercy and forgiveness rich and free ~ given at great cost and price to Him.
Because I NEED a Saviour. I need His love to wrap me round, His Light to reveal the way I should walk, His word to instruct and guide, His endless patience and kindness, His restoration and healing.
And I shrug my shoulders at the thought of doing Christmas (or anything else for that matter) perfectly ~ especially as I am so dependent on Him and on others for help.
I admit and confess my weaknesses, faults and failings, regret my bad behaviour, dry my tears, breathe deep, rest myself once more in His presence, feel His hand upon me offering Himself again, sense Holy Spirit's anointing, and ~ move on changed ~ in heart if not in actions yet.
And, dear reader, that's the honest truth.
The best gift we've ever been given is to be offered a relationship with Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
I want to appreciate it to the full and pass on to you my joy in knowing Him, the way He meets me at my point of deepest need, how He delivers and sets me free.
If you feel like you've done nothing else of worth this year, please do yourself a favour and seek The Truth Himself.
He is waiting. Christ is here. He has come.
The Truth has been told.

Another confession:Most blog posts take a bit of time, refinement, fine-tuning and editing. But this? This one just poured out of me. And I've left it 'as is' in the hope that another soul will read and see I don't have it all together; I'm a 'work in progress' by God's grace and as messed up as the next person; and maybe, just maybe, they'll breathe a sigh of relief and feel less alone.
That's my hope and prayer.
For we all need a Saviour. 'Aint that the truth?

Not at the top
From a distance, mountains draw attention as they add
shape, texture and definition to the landscape. Close up, they're
even more impressive, and daunting if a climb is being contemplated.
Are we adequately prepared? Have we remembered to bring all the equipment necessary for the task? Questions flood in and fear can paralyse our steps.
Are we adequately prepared? Have we remembered to bring all the equipment necessary for the task? Questions flood in and fear can paralyse our steps.
Similarly, mountains loom large and sudden in our lives,
leaving us feeling weak-kneed with indecision, crippled by anxiety
and with a heart sinking in discouragement.
How in the world do
we face up to (never mind scale) this
mountain of:shame, sickness, pain, grief, hardship, loss,
failure or financial pressure? It all seems so insurmountable.
And it probably is in our own strength, which is naturally limited by
weariness, weakness, doubt and fear.
These mountains cast a dark shadow over our days (and
often our nights too) as they appear impenetrable and immovable. At
times like this it helps to check in with our mountain-moving God and
get His perspective on the situation.
Is this one we circle with endurance, no matter how long
it takes? Or ask Him to remove? Or scale with His assistance? The
answer can vary. It may involve all three possibilities to some
extent.
I've circled, trudged weary and slow for years around a
mountain of sickness and pain, my shoes full of wilderness sand that
I just long to shake off.
In the past I crept slower still around a mountain of
deep depression, despair and discouragement, heavily laden with guilt
and shame over the emotional and sexual abuse I encountered as a
child.
Sometimes the mountain ground me down. Often-times, it
seemed to edge away a little into the distance. But it never
disappeared completely...
....I'd love you to come on over with me and read the rest here where I am excited to be guest posting for my writer friend, Chris Morris today...

When the going gets tough
Wilderness wandering can suck the life right out of us.
Each step feels heavy and stiff.
We long to move on from this place.
Where is the beautiful vista that we've been told lies ahead?
It always feels tantalisingly out of reach.
Too much life happening at once reduces us to weak-kneed walkers.
How in the world do we keep going when circumstances make us want to sink into sand, droop with defeat, expire with exhaustion and throw in the towel?
When the going gets tough, the tough get going....either to a place of darkness and despair or....back to what we know can strengthen and sustain, lift and bring life into wobbly legs and discouraged hearts.
Yet, here we are:
Weighed down with burdens we're not built to carry.
Struggling to make sense of things we cannot understand.
Losing sight of all that's good, pure and lovely.
Lost in mud and mire.
Left out and left hanging.
Made miserable beyond words.
Dejected. Despairing. Defeated.
But God...
His compassion encompasses us at all times.
He stands ready to lift the burdens from our backs.
He has arms wide open to embrace His weary child.
He sees the end from the beginning and knows breakthrough is close at hand.
He longs to pour His purpose into our plans.
He desires to support us with His strength.
He loves us beyond our comprehension and far too much to leave us struggling alone.
His grace is sufficient and always enough for every need.
His mercies are new every morning.
Knowing these things, our best course of action is to take a tough, prayerful stand of faith against the enemy, 'get going' back to resting in God's Presence, feasting on His word, being renewed, refreshed and restored by His Spirit.
My friend, you are not alone in your struggles. Don't fall for the lie that says you have no hope.
In Christ, you have every hope of seeing change even as you walk through this trial with Him by your side.
There have been so many greatly challenging emotional, relational and physical circumstances in my life recently that I wanted nothing more than to turn my back and run away from it all.
Hiding seemed the best option. Who in the world could face and deal with this?
Then God whispered, "Run to Me, my child. I'm your safe place always. Hide yourself in Me".
And He was right. There is no safer place to be in the eye of the storm than resting in the safety and shelter of the eternal Rock.
I'm still in the war zone. But I have faith in God fighting on my behalf as I relinquish control, learn to let go of anxiety and fear and receive His peace and calm to enable me to keep on walking.
Our problems may not go away, but we are better equipped to deal with them.
So let's get tough on tough situations:
Take (all) Our Upsets Griefs (and concerns to) Him
I'm willing to try it. How about you?
